Summer Slide and Summer Games for Preschool to Grade 2

 The summer slide refers to the learning loss that can occur when students are away from school during summer vacation and have limited opportunities to practice academic skills.

For young students, summer slide can affect several areas:

• Reading skills: Children who do not read regularly over the summer may lose reading fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension skills.
• Math skills: Basic arithmetic and problem-solving abilities often decline without practice, especially for elementary-age students.
