Learning About Dogs - Resources and Activities

Have Fun Learning about Dogs as Part of a Study of Mammals

*Here are some fun videos to observe which will help the kids (and adults) learn
   about the different dog breeds.

*The kids might enjoy creating this cute Dog Paper Bag Craft by DLTK's Crafts for Kids
  featured in my previous post.

*Have students read books about Dogs (fiction and non-fiction).

*Have the kids observe and take pictures of dogs or find pictures in magazines and
create a poster, book, or slideshow.

*Visit a pet store to observe the different breeds of dogs.
Petco has a field trip program for students in grades K-8, as part of their animal
    welfare education program.

*Have students survey friends and family to find out their favorite breeds of dogs. They
could tally their responses. They could also create a tally chart or frequency chart.
Older students could graph this information and find the mean, median, and mode.

*Learn songs about dogs.
BINGO is an old favorite of kids.

  Lyrics
There was a farmer had a dog,
 And BINGO was his name-O!
 B-I-N-G-O, B-I-N-G-O, B-I-N-G-O
 And BINGO was his name-O.

Have the kids sing the complete song once.
Then repeat the song but substitute a CLAP for the B in the dog's name.
Next repeat the song but substitute claps for the B and I.
Repeat but substitute claps for B, I, and N.
Repeat but substitute claps for B, I, N, and G.
  Repeat but substitute claps for B, I, N, G, and O.

*Create a cute Origami Dog via the Activity Village.

*Read about and color 20 different Dog Breeds via Education.com
