Geometry - What is a Cone?

A Cone is a Three-Dimensional Solid Figure.




Features: A Cone has 1 circular base and 1 curved surface.


Suggested Activities
  • Read books about cones and other 3D Shapes. 
 




  • Have students observe a cone(s) manipulative(s) or picture(s) of a cone(s).  Discuss its properties. 
                                                
  • Have students describe the features of a cone.
  • Have students look for cone shapes in their home, school, or community. How many can they find?

  • Have students look for pictures of cone shapes in books, magazines, and catalogs. Have students create a poster, book, or slide show about cones.
                                                






  • Have students create cones. Use clay and other arts and crafts materials.

  • Have students use NETS (2D representations of  3D shapes) to make Cone models.
