Congruent figures are figures that have exactly the same shape and size.

The triangles (above) are congruent even though the 2nd triangle is turned upside down.

Suggested Activities:

• Distribute different shapes to students (paper, plastic, etc.). Have students find the shapes that are congruent. 

                

• Give students tracing paper. Have them trace different shapes to make congruent figures. 

• Have students use manipulatives to create congruent figures. They could use popsicle sticks, toothpicks, pretzels, etc. 

                                                                               

                                                          

                                                               

• Have students use geoboards to create congruent shapes. 

                                           

 

• Have students use dotted grid paper to create congruent shapes.

• Have students create congruent shapes with art materials. (crayons, colored pencils, drawing paper, construction paper, rulers, scissors, etc.)
